‘A Master of His Instrument…A Confidence and Proficiency beyond most Traditional Players’ – Irish Music Magazine

Roundwood Records, in association with Jiggery Pokery Productions, are delighted to announce the release of Feochán, the debut solo album by Robert Harvey.

Showcasing a variety of tunes sourced from collections made by O'Neill, Goodman, Fleischmann, Joyce, Petrie and Kerr, in addition to more recent compositions, Feochán was recorded live in Tyrrelstown House over three days in 2019. On this album, Robert sets out to explore the interpretive and expressive possibilities inherent across a range of flutes, ably accompanied on harp, guitar, piano, harmonium and bodhrán.

Seven times All-Ireland Champion, Dr. Robert Harvey is a flautist from Mountrath, Co. Laois. Robert studied music in Trinity College Dublin and Conservatory of Music and Drama DIT, where he graduated with first class honours and was presented with the President’s Gold Medal for Academic Excellence in 2010. Robert recently completed PhD research on Traditional Composition in the East Galway Style. Robert was selected by Donal Lunny as flute player for the Irish television series “Lorg Lunny”, which resulted in the formation of the band Ciorras, with whom he toured extensively internationally and released the acclaimed album ‘Silver Lining’. More recently, Robert has recorded the album 'Macalla 1916', featuring an orchestral suite of music which was composed and conducted by TG4 composer of the year 2016 Michael Rooney, and also features in the RTÉ produced animated children’s show ‘Peak Zoo’ as well as the recently released CD 'Songs of Zelda: A Link to the Celts', produced by Eimear Noone and Craig Garfinkle. In 2019, Robert played the part of ‘Frank the Robin’ in Universal Studio’s ‘The Christmas Letter’ narrated by Kate Winslet. Robert currently lectures in Irish music in Trinity College Dublin, in addition to being in demand internationally as a performer, teacher, examiner, and adjudicator.
